Make the Drive: 4 Picnic Spots Near Woodstock, IL

Woodstock, IL, is a peaceful town with an award-winning farmers market and many fairs and festivals, including a famous Groundhog Day celebration that featured in the Bill Murray movie of the same name. This pleasant community-focused town has plenty of parks and picnic spots to enjoy when the weather’s nice. Here are a few of the best places to have a picnic in Woodstock.

Emricson Park

As the largest park in town, Emricson Park offers many nice places to spread your picnic blanket on a well-manicured patch of lawn. You can eat beside one of the pretty ponds and bring along some bread to feed the ducks. Alternatively, settle near the well-equipped playgrounds and let your kids build up an appetite on the swings and slides before you eat, or use one of the many covered picnic tables under the large pavilion. 

The park has great facilities, clean restrooms and drinking fountains, plus tennis courts, baseball fields, and tree-lined trails for jogging or cycling. There are also lots of parking spaces. You can find Emricson Park at 1313 Kishwaukee Valley Road.

Kishwaukee Park

With wide open areas of well-mowed lawn and several soccer fields, Kishwaukee Park is another great place to relax for a picnic. You can play frisbee, watch a soccer game, or play a little soccer yourself. Once a month, you’ll see rocket launches here by the Fox Valley Rocketeers. 

You’ll find the park on Davis Road with a large parking area beside it. Drive there in your new 2023 Chevrolet Colorado Trail Boss. The Trail Boss’s raised and widened suspension not only makes for amazing off-roading but also provides wonderfully smooth handling for short drives around town.

Westwood Conservation Area

To enjoy a walk and a picnic in a slightly wilder natural area, visit the Westwood Conservation Area on the western side of town. Here, you can stroll through some beautiful oak woodlands, wetlands, and prairie landscapes and choose a secluded spot to spread your picnic blanket. 

If you want to escape the town’s hustle and bustle for a few hours, this conservation area is something of a hidden gem. They appreciate volunteer work helping to cut up and remove the fallen trees if you feel like building up an appetite with a little healthy outdoor work. The nearest address to the conservation area is 1529 Hillside Trail.

Banford Road Park

This well-maintained little park at 11401 Banford Road offers a beautiful area of lawn to relax on, with a pond, playground, and basketball court. If you’re in the northeastern part of Woodstock, it’s a nice nearby place to eat up in the open air. They also allow dogs in the park.
